When was the last time you drove by a beautiful building and marveled? Not at the architecture. At the foundation.
Years ago, Focus on the Family added a new building to our campus right outside my office window. I got to watch the construction process unfold from the first shovelful of dirt until the final brick was mortared into place nearly a year later.
The biggest surprise for me came when I realized that the first four months of the project had been dedicated entirely to the foundation. A full third of the construction process focused on cement and rebar no one will ever see.
What a testimony to the importance of a strong foundation. Without it, a structure will crack under its own weight and eventually crumble altogether.
That’s true in construction, and it’s true of our faith. Our belief about God’s interaction with the world is either built on a foundation that will sustain our faith when the storms of adversity come, or it will wash it out from underneath us.
On our Focus on the Family Broadcast “Who is the Author of Your Faith?,” Pastor Andy Stanley explains why too many people have “circumstantial faith” – a faith that will not withstand life’s negative circumstances.
Drawing from Hebrews 4:14-16, Andy explains why the foundation of our faith is not merely a set of ideas but a person – a person who walked the earth, who was seen, who was touched, who was loved, who spoke, who performed miracles, who died on a cross, who was raised from the dead and seen by over 500 people, and who intercedes on our behalf before God.
I was riveted when I heard Andy Stanley give this message, and I knew we had to share it with you. I believe it will strengthen your faith and carry you through your storms.
I’d like to extend an invitation for you to become a special partner with us through our monthly “Friends of Focus on the Family” program. When you do, I’ll send you a copy of Andy Stanley’s book Faith, Hope, and Luck: Discover What You Can Expect from God as a way of saying thank you for touching others with the love of Christ. You’ll also receive member-exclusive benefits. To make your pledge, or for more information, visit our website or call 1-800-A-FAMILY (232-6459).
