When Dr. Dobson recorded his first 15-minute radio broadcast some thirty years ago, he had a hunch there might be an audience in the U.S. for insight into marriage and parenting issues. Never in his wildest dreams did he envision a day when his advice would be broadcast around the world. Today, Focus on the Family is heard from Alabama to Albania, California to the Congo, and New Jersey to Papua New Guinea. In fact, some version of a Focus program is heard in 149 countries in 26 languages!
Beyond the broadcast, we have associate offices in Australia, Canada, Indonesia, Ireland, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, and Taiwan as well as regional offices covering Africa, Asia, the Hispanic world, and the Middle East. A strategic partnership with friends in the United Kingdom round out the outreach of Focus on the Family. Whew! God is good!
All this week at our home office in Colorado Springs, we’re hosting our semi-annual International Directors meeting with about fifty leaders, board members, and regional directors from around the world. It’s one of those sweet times of fellowship, mutual encouragement, and prayer. Of course there’s a wonderful cross-pollinating of ideas that takes place when you assemble such a diverse representation of God’s people. I know there’s much we can learn from each other and I especially enjoy listening to the refreshing perspective these co-laborers bring whenever we gather together.
On Monday, after addressing the group, a number of them came forward to pray for me. They prayed for wisdom as I work to direct the “mother ship” in the days ahead. They prayed for God’s blessing on our staff and families. And, they prayed for the on-going vision of Focus on the Family to help families thrive here and abroad. To hear their heartfelt prayers was a small taste of heaven.
Please be in prayer for us this week as we engage in these important meetings.
