Plenty of things cause anxiety. Political, social and financial unrest. Wars. Rumors of wars. Every new day offers something else to fear.
It’s a big reason anxiety has become the number one diagnosis in our country for mental health issues. One in five adults and one in four teenagers suffer from anxiety.
But how does anxiety manifest itself?
- Headaches.
- Sleep disturbances.
- Our appetite seems off.
- Panic attacks.
- A bad feeling we can’t shake.
On Focus on the Family with Jim Daly, I’m airing a conversation that I had with the late Dr. Gregory Jantz, the founder of The Center – A Place of Hope located in Edmonds, WA, a renowned treatment center for anxiety and depression.
We discussed the root causes of anxiety, which include:
- Early childhood trauma.
- Lifestyle choices.
- Difficult life circumstances.
- Isolation
And solutions, which he synopsizes as:
- Awareness.
- Action.
Dr. Jantz also describes what he calls “good” anxiety, by which he means the motivation to take care of problems that need handling, through better sleep, diet adjustments, avoiding isolation, and so on. What is it that I need to address that will help mitigate my anxiety?
Hear Dr. Jantz’ practical advice on your local radio station, online, on Apple Podcasts, or listen on our free phone app. This program is part of our “Best of” programs for 2025, airing throughout the month of December.
