What does the Tooth Fairy, Santa Claus and the saying “if you cross your eyes, they’ll get stuck that way” all have in common?
They’re all lies that most of us have believed at some point. Fortunately, these untruths and others like them, are mostly harmless.
But many other lies prevent us from flourishing in some area of our lives. It’s important to examine lies through the lens of Scripture.
To do that, Gary Thomas is joining me on Focus on the Family with Jim Daly to help you dismantle the prominent lies of this age and discover true freedom in Christ.
We discuss common spiritual lies that invade our thoughts, including:
- Peace – We all want peace, but true peace isn’t found in possessions, health, or acclaim. Peace is a person – Jesus.
- Control – Letting go of the illusion of control feels scary, but we thrive when we recognize that only God has ultimate control.
- Family – Family is important, but seeking ultimate meaning in family blinds us to true ultimate meaning found only in God.
- Self-serving salvation – Settling for a salvation that is “all about me” hinders us from true salvation which gives our lives purpose.
- Materialism – Living out of a materialistic worldview keeps us from experiencing the wonder of living life with supernatural oversight and assistance.
- Entitlement – Exchanging entitlement for gratitude changes bitterness and anger to a sense of wonder of God’s goodness.
- Earthly splendor – Living a “rich-toward-God-life” shapes our hearts toward what truly matters, rejecting the world’s definition of success.
- Wisdom – Cultivating wisdom is a Christian’s greatest asset.
