Tips for Planning Memorable Date Nights

My advice to married couples is this: pursue romance every chance you get. Take sunset walks on the beach. Eat dinner by candlelight. Kiss in the rain. Enjoy beautiful moments together that lift your relationship beyond itself.

Authors Jay and Laura Laffoon encourage couples to try new things as often as possible. New experiences allow couples to grow as individuals and together. Even small things like trying a new restaurant create little adventures that draw a couple together.

Date nights should be intentional. Instead of sitting quietly across from each other at dinner, staring at your phones, make it a time of eye contact, connection, and good conversation.

Jay and Laura are joining me on Focus on the Family with Jim Daly to share practical ideas for creating enjoyable and meaningful date nights, including:

  • An evening home together after sending the children to grandma and grandpa’s for the night.
  • Planning for the future, including goal setting, vacation planning, assessing areas of the relationship that could improve, and sharing lists of gratitude.
  • Trying new things.
  • Snuggling by the fire. A fireplace is inherently romantic and can make conversation easier.
  • Driveway Date. If you don’t even have time and energy for a date night away from home, take your favorite snacks and drinks to the car and enjoy conversation in the backseat.

Instead of seeing your wedding day as the moment your romance began to end, see it as the moment your romance got started.
