Each of us owe our deepest gratitude to military servicemen and women who dedicated their lives to protecting our freedom. Today I want to honor American veterans on Focus on the Family with Jim Daly.
I’m talking with Chad Robichaux, who comes from a long line of military service members. His grandparents fought in World War II and Korea. His father served in Vietnam, and both of Chad’s sons served in the Marines. Chad was himself a force recon Marine who did eight deployments to Afghanistan, and who continues to serve and protect Americans all over the world, most recently in Ukraine.
Chad originally joined the military after 9/11, fueled by a desire for retribution against terrorists. Across eight tours of duty in Afghanistan, his interpreter, a man named Aziz, became like a brother and saved Chad’s life three times. He also educated Chad about the harsh realities facing the Afghani people, which led Chad to assemble a coalition of nonprofits called “Save our Allies” who endeavor to rescue the oppressed and vulnerable from rape, abuse, and death.
In recent years, several of Chad’s colleagues at Save Our Allies encouraged Chad to help Americans and allies safely escape from Ukraine. After prayer and counsel with his wife and other trusted advisors, Chad decided to get involved. He not only enlisted the help of many talented former military operatives, but his own sons, Hunter and Hayden, themselves Marines, have also played a crucial part in missions to Ukraine. Hunter has made nine trips to Ukraine, most of them without Chad.
During an interview about their work in Ukraine, Chad and a colleague were asked if their work efforts were worth it. His colleague immediately responded, “It doesn’t have to be.” Their mission isn’t about personal benefit. It’s about doing the right thing because it’s the right thing to do.
