Women face a lot of pressure.
Many are trying to maintain a career or an otherwise busy outside schedule while being a wife and mother and caring for the family home. The demands on their time are immense.
That’s how it is for my wife, Jean. Our boys are in those middle, “tweener” years, so she always seems to be running from one activity to another.
But, as many women discover, too much responsibility makes it easy to get out of balance. And when a woman’s life is out of whack, she usually doesn’t take very good care of herself.
Rachel Randolph realized that was true for her when she went on a trip without her 1-year-old son for the first time. While at a conference, Rachel met another woman who seemed relaxed and focused. She reminded Rachel of the woman she used to be before motherhood, her career, and her responsibilities at home got out of balance.
Rachel realized all the little things she had been missing since her son had been born, like leisurely putting on her makeup or spending quality time with God. She had been so tuned in to her newborn’s needs, it had been months since she had taken a moment to simply relax and care for herself.
Rachel knew right then she needed to make some changes. But how? Where does a woman even begin when she needs to restore balance to her life and there’s so much to be done?
That’s what Rachel wondered, and maybe you’re asking yourself that question, too.
Rachel and her mother Becky Johnson, our guests on today’s program, have answers. They’ll tell you to start by asking yourself this one question, “What do I need right now?”
It’s simple, but it’s important.
For you, it might be a little sleep or some help around the house. Or maybe you’re overwhelmed at work or you need to learn how to be content with a home that’s not always spotless. Even finding a babysitter to give you an afternoon alone might be just the thing to recharge your batteries.
No matter whether the stress is a slow drip or whether it’s coming at you like a fire hose, you can’t afford to put off self-care for long. In fact, it’s in the moments of greatest stress that you need to take care of yourself the most.
So if you’re feeling tired and burned out trying to do it all, we want to come alongside you and give you some hope, some encouragement, and some practical ideas to restore balance to your life.
