Our culture is undergoing seismic shifts in moral reasoning.
A daughter of friends of mine began her college career at a university here in Colorado. At the orientation, both students and parents were warned to use correct pronouns when addressing others. Offending others through the misuse of pronouns was grounds for expulsion from the school.
The conversation surrounding transgenderism is rapidly deteriorating into a monologue. Rather than sincere discussion about science, truth, and compassion for those who struggle, power drives decorum, insisting that people of faith accept gender transition without dissent.
Consider the violation of free speech Focus on the Family’s Daily Citizen continues to endure from Twitter. Although science shows that it is impossible to be “transgender” (to actually change from one gender to another) because at a chromosomal level females remain XX and males remain XY, Daily Citizen was blocked from Twitter for “hate speech.” The tweet in question simply stated that President Biden had chosen “Dr. Rachel Levine to serve as Assistant Secretary for Health at the Department of HHS. Dr. Levine is a transgender woman, that is, a man who believes he is a woman.”
This sort of cultural muzzling prevents those who are hurting and in need of real answers from receiving help. Despair, anxiety, and depression are common within the transgender community.
Walt Heyer and Kathy Grace Duncan say a high percentage of people within the transgender community report a history of sexual and/or psychological abuse. To receive help, they need to go much deeper than political correctness to find out where their hurt lies.
We’re talking with Walt and Kathy Grace on our Focus on the Family Broadcast “The Journey Back to My True Identity.” We’re examining transgenderism and how it is reshaping concepts of identity and gender in our society today.
Walt identified as a transgender woman for eight years and now counsels others who regret their gender change. He’s an author and speaker who travels extensively to share his story of redemption at conferences, churches, and universities. Kathy Grace identified as a man for 11 years. She now volunteers with Portland Fellowship, a ministry center that helps men and women discover Bible-based freedom from unwanted same sex desires and relationships.
Both Walt and Kathy Grace believed that transitioning to a different gender was their salvation from confusion and struggle. They later discovered their salvation was in Jesus Christ alone. They’re with us to share their journey to faith and to offer insight into how the Christian community can address this issue and come alongside those struggling with their identity.
