The abortion industry promotes medical abortions as “safer” and “easier” than surgical abortions because there’s no need for a surgeon, medical staff, or specialized equipment. The actual appeal, however, is that medical options make abortions more common and cheaper, thus creating a higher profit-margin.
It’s estimated that 42% of early abortions (up to eight weeks) and 30% of all abortions are the result of the medication Mifepristone. Also known as RU486, this medication convinces a woman’s body that she’s not pregnant, breaking down the connections between mother and embryo.
As far as “safer” and “easier” are concerned, women are prescribed the abortion pill up to 21 weeks of pregnancy, which increases their chance of suffering an incomplete abortion and medical complications.
On our Focus on the Family Broadcast “Abortion Pill Reversal,” we’re examining how the abortion pill works and how pro-life doctors can reverse the process.
Our guests are Dr. Bill Lile – a speaker, an author, and an OB/GYN who proudly promotes prolife values – and Rebekah Buell Hagan, a prolife advocate and mother of three children who has quite a story to share.
She discovered she was pregnant in the aftermath of an abusive marriage and a divorce. She received RU486 from an abortion clinic and immediately regretted her decision in the parking lot. It was as if Satan had turned out the lights, leaving her in darkness, and said, “Gotcha!” Rebekah prayed for God’s help to rescue her baby.
As you’ll hear, Rebekah found help through a nurse at a Pregnancy Resource Center who helped her get started on a reversal treatment. The abortion clinic warned Rebekah that her baby would likely not survive or would have severe abnormalities if it did. Months later, Rebekah gave birth to a normal, healthy boy she named Zechariah, whose name means “The Lord Remembered.” She credits Nurse Debbie and the PRC for empowering her to say “yes” to God, who gave her a future, a family, and hope.
This inspiring program about saving preborn isn’t graphic, but it’s probably not suitable for younger children, so please use your discretion and occupy your kids elsewhere, or listen later on your local radio station, online, on Apple Podcasts, via Google Podcasts, or take us with you on our free phone app.
Focus on the Family is unashamedly pro-life. It’s one of our foundational principles. We do everything we can to protect babies in the womb and to help the mothers and fathers who are dealing with the crisis of an unexpected pregnancy.
This program touches on a number of issues along the way that may feel tender for you. If so, I want you to know that Focus on the Family has a caring Christian team of counselors, and it would be their privilege to offer you a free consultation. Call us, leave your name and number, and they’ll get back with you just as soon as possible. The number during business hours is 1-800-A-FAMILY (232-6459).
Before I close, one of the best things you can do to support life is to participate in our Option Ultrasound program. Abortion clinics are interested in abortion. Pregnancy resource centers minister to everyone involved: the woman, the man, the baby, the family.
Our Option Ultrasound program provides grants for sonogram training and technology. To date, more than 800 ultrasound machines have been placed around the country, and more than 470,000 babies have been saved.
We’re working hard to raise that number to one million babies saved sometime in the near future. I’d like to extend an invitation for you to become a special partner with us. What’s amazing is that it only takes $60 to save a baby’s life by providing ultrasound machines and additional resources. (Check our website for details.)
