Believing in the Hope of Heaven

Lee Strobel was an investigative journalist and an atheist who set out to disprove Christianity. Instead, he discovered that the evidence for Christ’s resurrection is “strong, persuasive, powerful, and based on a solid foundation of historical truth.”

In the summer of 2011, Lee woke up in the emergency room after his wife Leslie found him unconscious on the bedroom floor. The doctor told him, “You were one step away from a coma and two steps away from death.” Lee was diagnosed with an unusual medical condition called hyponatremia – a severe drop in blood sodium level that caused his brain to swell.

That life-and-death event inspired him to study the evidence for the afterlife. Lee interviewed experts and examined the stories of people who claimed near-death experiences.

The fear of death can drive us toward unhealthy means of coping:

The Bible offers hope. One of the most beautiful promises in Scripture is Revelation 21:4, in which John writes, “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

Lee Strobel is joining us on our Focus on the Family Broadcast “Believing in the Hope of Heaven” to deepen our faith in the promises of heaven. Listen on your local radio station, online, on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, via Google Podcasts, or take us with you on our free phone app.

You may also be interested in a free online booklet we’ve written called, “Coming Home: An Invitation to Join God’s Family,” which explains what it means to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

I’d like to extend an invitation for you to become a special partner with us through our monthly “Friends of Focus on the Family” program. When you do, I’ll send you a copy of Lee Strobel’s book The Case for Heaven: A Journalist Investigates Evidence for Life After Death as a way of saying thank you for touching others with the love of Christ. You’ll also receive member-exclusive benefits. To make your pledge, or for more information, click here or call 1-800-A-FAMILY (232-6459).

Lee Strobel is a best-selling author and has been on this broadcast a number of times. He currently serves as Founding Director of the Lee Strobel Center for Evangelism and Applied Apologetics at Colorado Christian University.
