The late Dr. Adrian Rogers, who used to serve on the board here at Focus on the Family, liked to say that the Bible was like a pool shallow enough that a little child can come and get a drink without fear of drowning, yet so deep scholars can swim in it and never touch bottom.
I’m reminded of that observation as our promotion of ‘Bring Your Bible to School Day’ on October 3rd continues to heat up. Here are just a few updates.
First, I’m delighted to announce that NASCAR’s veteran race car driver J.J. Yeley will be competing in the next two Xfinity Series races (Friday, September 20 in Richmond, VA and Saturday, September 28 in Charlotte, NC) by driving his No. 78 Toyota Supra wrapped in the ‘Bring Your Bible to School Day’ logo and colors.
A committed man of the Christian faith, the RSS Racing professional (and his 14-year-old daughter, Faith Ann) are eager to encourage parents and students to participate in this year’s annual nationwide celebration.
So, if you’re a fan of NASCAR, please keep an eye out for J.J. Yeley’s car – and please pray for him as he visibly lives out his Christian faith.
Second, I had shared with you about my trip to New Orleans last week to thank and support the Saints’ star quarterback, Drew Brees. As you will recall, Brees received immense criticism for supporting ‘Bring Your Bible to School Day’ because of its affiliation with Focus on the Family.
Brees is now sidelined with an injured hand and is expected to be out of action for at least the next 6 weeks. We wish him a speedy and full recovery!
In the meantime, I thought you might enjoy an extended video of our trip to last week’s game. Please take a look and let me know what you think.
