How should you respond if your child is questioning his or her sexual identity?
We routinely hear from Christian parents who are navigating this issue. It’s so difficult and complex that it’s easy to feel overcome by emotion and to react poorly. Responses often range from fear and anger to pain and betrayal. But there’s a third option.
Grace.
It is possible to emulate Christ by listening empathetically and by leaning into your child’s pain and confusion. How?
Rob Jackson, a member of our Counseling team with more than 40 years of experience as a counselor and a life coach, is joining me on Focus on the Family with Jim Daly to help your family experience healing – spiritually, psychologically, behaviorally, and relationally.
Rob will help you understand the forces driving today’s gender-confused culture and share how to develop a game plan for responding with God’s grace and truth. Rob also shares practical steps for reminding your child that unconditional love does not equal unconditional celebration of their choices and behaviors.
We discuss a wide range of topics, including:
• Homosexuality in today’s culture.
• Understanding sexual identity.
• How to respond to a child questioning his or her sexual identity.
• How to live out your convictions.
• Establishing appropriate boundaries.
• How to address tough LGBT issues.
Kindness is not the same as condoning. We’ll help you love your child unconditionally by being respectful, kind, and humble.
This program isn’t graphic, but it’s probably not suitable for younger children, so please use your discretion and occupy your kids elsewhere, or listen later on your local radio station, online, onApple Podcasts, or take us with you on our free phone app.
