When parents ask me for advice, I encourage them to pray. Sometimes prayer is all you have.
I’m sure you’ve had moments where you felt helpless to protect your child in the midst of circumstances that were beyond your control. Every parent has paced a hospital floor, lost sleep in worry, or kept vigil at a living room window until a child returned safely home. We’ve all bandaged enough scraped knees to know that we can’t protect our children from everything no matter how vigilant we are.
And so we pray.
Prayer is something of a mystery to many parents, so I’ve invited co-authors Hillary Ferrer and Julie Loos to join me on Focus on the Family with Jim Daly to talk about how moms can develop a regular, honest prayer life for themselves and for their families.
Hillary is the founder of Mama Bear Apologetics. Julie Loos is a contributing author for Mama Bear Apologetics.
We discussed how prayer connects us with something deeper than our challenges, renews our hope, and strengthens us when circumstances make us weak. Hillary and Julie share:
- How to keep prayer raw and honest.
- What to do when God doesn’t answer prayer the way we’d hoped.
- The building blocks of praying with your family.
- How to pray for a prodigal child.
- Steps to building a legacy of prayer with your family.
They also explain four types of prayer moms can incorporate into their prayer life:
- Praise – Helps us connect with God’s goodness.
- Confession – Enables us to confront our sin and receive forgiveness.
- Thanks – Develops a grateful heart within us that we then channel into service for God.
- Intercession – Brings our children’s needs to the Lord.
Whether you’re kneeling at your bedside at night or sitting in a hospital room desperate for good news, pray. Because sometimes prayer is all you have.
