Jeff and Cheryl Scruggs were married for ten years … the first time.
Their life together started perfectly. They moved to Los Angeles in their mid-twenties and were living the California lifestyle. They were successful at their jobs, they made a lot of money, and they even had an ocean-front home with all of the right stuff to fill it.
But for Cheryl, marriage was empty.
She thought the lack of intimacy between her and Jeff would eventually correct itself.
It didn’t.
She thought the birth of their twins would fill her emptiness.
It did … for a while.
She also thought the innocent conversation with a man she met at a conference would remain just that – innocent. But within a month, it became a full-blown adulterous affair.
And when Jeff and Cheryl later got divorced, they both believed their relationship was irreparably broken.
It wasn’t.
Their connection was like a rope with all the threads torn except one. There was something still tying them together. Jeff and Cheryl will now tell you that it was God working between them in some mysterious way.
But back then, the anger, resentment, and bitterness seemed impossible to overcome. After the divorce, Jeff even told Cheryl, “I’ll never reconcile with you. Ever. Don’t talk to me about it. Don’t even mention it.”
But God began to work.
Seven years later, they remarried and have a thriving marriage today.
Jeff and Cheryl Scruggs have traveled a very difficult journey. As the founders of Hope Matters Marriage Ministries in Plano, Texas, they’re intimately familiar with marriages gone wrong, and counseled hundreds, if not thousands of other couples over the years.
Especially if your marriage is in a tough place, I hope you’ll join us today and tomorrow for “Hope for Every Marriage” on your local radio station, online, or on our free phone app. I know their story will offer hope and healing to a lot of couples who need both.
Jeff and Cheryl are also the authors of the book, “I Do Again.” You can find that and other helpful resources for your marriage in our online bookstore.

-Please pray for my family, the Boyer family. My wife divorced me in October’18. We were a family that loved God and shared His gospel as a family. We used to have bible study and discipleship groups at our home. After my wife left, I lost my my business, my home and my mind. Jesus has restored my mind and now I’m trusting Him, by faith, to restore my marriage. In Job 42, God restored him double…. I simply want my wife back. Her name is Shajuan.
Thank you and God bless!!
