Do you know how to care for your inner world as well as you do your outer world?
That’s hard if you’re a mom. Motherhood can be a crazy time of life. You feel overwhelmed and stressed. Your work isn’t over after you get home from your day job. It’s just beginning. Even you stay-at-home moms have a full plate from the time your feet hit the floor in the morning until you collapse into bed exhausted late at night.
Author and speaker Nicole Johnson says women are like pressure cookers. They can withstand a lot of stress, but they need a release valve.
She also tells women that you have two choices when it comes to dealing with your stress and caring for your inner world: “Be still and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10). Or stay busy and keep wondering.
You think you’re holding your world together. You believe the myth that you can’t stop or cut back. Then a crisis comes, and you’re given a dark gift – discovering that not only can you stop, you must stop.
“Dark gifts” is Nicole’s term for difficult circumstances that become an opportunity for God to work His grace into our lives. She encourages women: “Don’t waste a dark gift. If you face a crisis, figure out what it’s telling you and learn from it.”
How? I asked Nicole to join us as our guest on our Focus on the Family Broadcast “Remaining Calm in the Chaos of Life” to explain more fully how to create the space you need to meet with God in a way that enriches your life and refreshes your mind, body, and soul.
Tune in to the program on your local radio station, online, on Apple Podcasts, via Google Podcasts, or take us with you on our free phone app.
Nicole teaches women how to create a physical and spiritual space where they can meet with God in quiet stillness. She says too many women believe that calm comes from controlling the crazy. The problem is, you can’t control the crazy because there’s too much crazy to control. Instead, you can create calm within the crazy by finding your center in Christ.
You can get a copy of Nicole’s book Creating Calm in the Center of Crazy: Making Room for Your Soul in an Overcrowded Life for a gift of any amount. Give us a call at 1-800-A-FAMILY (232-6459). Or visit our website for more information. And if you can’t afford it, we’ll find a way to get it to you.
