What’s your relationship with clutter Does it bring your comfort? Or fill you with anxiety?
We’re all a little different. Some of us don’t mind a little clutter, or see a good reason to pick up somebody’s else socks. Some of us feel a tidy home offers peace. We’re more calm if we’re not navigating scattered piles of things and activities.
Regardless of where you fall on the tidiness spectrum, there are ways to organize that increase the efficiency of your home, so you can maximize the time you devote to family and other priorities.
Joining me on our Focus on the Family Broadcast “Organizing the Chaos in Your Home,” is Kristi Clover, a home organization expert and a mom of five kids, ranging from preschool to teenagers. She’s also author of the book, M—O—M: Master Organizer of Mayhem: Simple Solutions to Organize Chaos and Bring More Joy Into Your Home.
Kristi says home organization is not one-size-fits-all. Every family must adjust ideas to fit their homes, their goals, and their lifestyles. Kristi shares three simple ideas for getting a handle on your home organization:
- Create a master list. Walk through each room and take notes. Then, instead of starting several projects, pick one.
- Prioritize your list. Kristi uses an “ABC scale”:
- A. Absolutely needs to be done soon.
- B. Better be done soon.
- C. Can be done later.
- Identify what’s not working and change things up. Don’t give up. Don’t compare yourself to others. And don’t try to do things perfectly. Pursue forward momentum and give yourself grace.
