Understanding the Importance of Voting

I don’t believe I’m overstating things when I say that the upcoming election is the most important in recent memory. There is a lot at stake!

In America, we’re blessed with a government that, Abraham Lincoln said, is “of the people, by the people, and, for the people.” But our system of government is only effective when citizens participate in the election process and vote. Christians especially have a responsibility to vote for candidates who uphold biblical values. Our duty is not to “Christianize” the government, or politics, or the social order. But we are called to be faithful to the Gospel in how we vote.

And yet, our Daily Citizen team estimates that 25 million Christians in the United States don’t vote consistently. That’s one out of every three believers. Imagine how the course of our nation would change if each of us as followers of Christ honored God through our vote.

I’ve invited John Stonestreet and Tim Goeglein to join me on Focus on the Family with Jim Daly to discuss why your vote on November 5 is so important.

John Stonestreet is the President of The Colson Center and author of the book A Practical Guide to Culture: Helping the Next Generation Navigate Today’s World. Tim Goeglein is the Vice President of External Relations in our D.C. office for Focus on the Family. He is the author of American Restoration: How Faith, Family, and Personal Sacrifice Can Heal Our Nation.

They encourage believers to prioritize non-negotiable issues as they consider casting votes for any particular candidate:

  1. Dignity of Life
  2. Protecting Families
  3. Religious Freedom

Deuteronomy 31:8 reminds us, “The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” We can trust God to be with us as we approach the 2024 election.

Hear my full conversation on your local radio station, online, on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, via Google Podcasts, or listen on our free phone app.

For further guidance, I’d like to offer you either John Stonestreet’s book A Practical Guide to Culture: Helping the Next Generation Navigate Today’s World or Tim Goeglein’s book American Restoration: How Faith, Family, and Personal Sacrifice Can Heal Our Nation for a gift of any amount. Click here for more information or give us a call at 1-800-A-FAMILY (232-6459).

I’d also recommend checking out Christians Engaged, which provides voting information for each state and staying in touch this political season by visiting Daily Citizen, which provides timely and relevant analysis of current events and cultural trends from a biblical worldview.
