VIDEO: Behind the Scenes with the Duggars

Tens of thousands of families visit our campus each year, but few, if any, have as many members with them as the Duggars.

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar are the proud parents of 19 children, 10 boys and 9 girls. You might already be familiar with them from their hit reality television show, 19 Kids and Counting, which airs on TLC. They’re an inspiring bunch on so many levels, and we were honored to host them here at Focus last week. They arrived on Friday morning and spent two full days with us.

We were thrilled to learn that the Duggars love Focus on the Family. In fact, the whole purpose of their visit was to spotlight the ministry on their television show. They love Focus for the way we’ve helped them raise their kids, who are particularly huge fans of “Adventures in Odyssey.” (As an aside, a friend of some of the kids who was traveling with them, a young man from Malaysia, said he learned to speak English by listening to “Odyssey.”)

During their time on our campus, the kids played in Whit’s End and taped an “Adventures in Odyssey” recording as the cameras captured all the fun they were having. Then, hundreds of Duggars fans in the Colorado Springs area were able to enjoy a free performance and book-signing on Saturday.

Stay tuned for news concerning an upcoming broadcast with them. Unfortunately, I was out of town on a speaking engagement during their visit, but I did have an opportunity to talk with Jim Bob by phone.
