It is after 11:00 PM and I am beat. I spent the entire Memorial Day weekend putting up one of those pre-fab two story club houses from Sam’s Club. Yes, I have gone insane! There must have been 5,000 pieces to this thing. Of course, the pre-drilled holes did not line up with the three other boards you must connect with one long hex bolt. If you can believe it, a friend of mine flew all the way from Nashville to hang out and give me a hand.
Friendship comes in all shapes and sizes, but wasn’t this incredible? How many of us would fly half way around the country to help someone put up a club house? Not only that, but this guy was hurting. He had hip replacement surgery awhile back and it was causing him pain the whole time. He was a real sport about it.
We actually had a great time. We pretended to be really upset with the directions, which stated to do one thing while the picture suggested we do the opposite. We laughed and teased each other about our construction ability, or lack thereof. It was a guy time.
Although not completed, my boys six and four, loved having their friends over to play on the second floor of the structure. Yes, the railing was secure! They beamed with pride and excitement to see this massive structure going up for their enjoyment.
The scripture tells us that Jesus is closer to us than a brother. My friend demonstrated just how close a brother can be, yet my Lord loves me even more! Can you feel His love for you? Like a child beaming with pride, are you excited about your relationship with the Lord? I would encourage you to appreciate the small things in life and be joyful about His care for you. It helps keep you in the right frame of mind…even if the holes don’t line up.
