We’re grateful to learn of today’s Supreme Court decision in the free speech case of NIFLA v. Becerra.
This case was a textbook example of government overreach. Thankfully, the court overturned a dangerous encroachment of our time-honored First Amendment freedoms of speech and religion.
No person should be compelled by government to speak a message contrary to their beliefs. Yet, that is exactly what the California legislature did, in an attempt to force pro-life pregnancy care centers to promote the availability of free and low-cost abortions.
The law was outrageous and absurd. We’re relieved that the Supreme Court stepped in today and sent its own clear message to federal, state and local authorities that government-compelled speech is abhorrent to our Constitution.
If the Court had decided differently today, I fear we would be on a path to nothing short of tyranny. Instead, we can celebrate and give thanks for our continued freedom. Clearly, our rights come from God, not from government.
May this decision remind all of us that government is our servant, not our master.
