Creating a Shared Vision for Your Marriage

Do you and your spouse have a “shared vision” for your marriage?

Many couples don’t. Some are so focused on their responsibilities at work, at church, and around the house that they focus on their marriage only when there’s a problem to solve. Others expect marriage to improve naturally on its own, a straight line moving upward.

Neither approach is effective.

For more than two decades, Sean and Lanette Reed have been helping couples build strong marriages. They’re big believers in couples casting a long-term vision for their marriage and family.

But the Reeds didn’t always understand marriage that way. They got married four months after high school graduation. Nine months later they had their first child. Over the next few years marital growth only occurred in response to crisis.

Since then, the Reeds have learned that couples who react to change will eventually be pulled apart as opposed to those who intentionally prepare for change.

Sean and Lanette Reed are with us on our Focus on the Family Broadcast “Creating a Shared Vision for Your Marriage” to help you and your spouse dream together, set goals for the future, and move into the future with confidence.

We discuss:

  • How to see the big picture.
  • Looking for gold in your relationship instead of focusing on negativity.
  • Why you’re too busy not to have a long-term relationship plan.
  • How to set goals and dream together as a couple.
  • Creating a family legacy.

Listen to my full conversation with Sean and Lanette Reed, recorded at a live Focus on the Family event, on your local radio station, online, on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, via Google Podcasts, or take us with you on our free phone app.

While you’re online, why not take a few moments to try our free Marriage Assessment online tool? It will help you quickly determine what’s working well in your relationship and identify areas where you may need some improvement.

Before I close, I’d like to extend an invitation for you to become a special partner with us through our monthly “Friends of Focus on the Family” program. When you do, I’ll send you a copy of Sean and Lanette Reed’s book Marriage in Transition: Creating Connection Through Uncontrollable Change as a way of saying thank you for touching others with the love of Christ. You’ll also receive member-exclusive benefits. To make your pledge, or for more information, click here or call 1-800-A-FAMILY (232-6459).
