“For a good time, call HOME!”
That’s not a bumper sticker (although it could be). It’s actually pastor and author Ted Cunningham’s way of encouraging men and women to invest in their marriage because you get out of your relationship what you put into it. Enjoying marriage is a decision – a choice you make – not something you achieve by passively hoping for good things to come your way.
After the honeymoon ends, the relationship often goes by the wayside. Instead of chasing each other, couples chase schedules, money, titles, and rambunctious children. All of those are great things – in balance. But as a couple’s priorities shift away from their marriage, their relationship drifts. Before long, their romance fades, and instead of offering their spouse their best, they offer their leftovers. Their leftover time. Their leftover energy. Their leftover commitment.
Compatibility is no accident. It’s something you create in your relationship by choosing to invest your time and resources. How do you do that?
On Focus on the Family with Jim Daly, we’re airing a recorded message by Ted that will encourage you and your spouse to laugh together, to battle for your relationship as teammates, and to fully appreciate one another’s qualities. Ted combines biblical principles with great stories about his own family and infuses it all with a good dose of comedy.
