Evangelism It’s Easier Than You Think

Jesus said to believers, “You are the salt of the earth,” and “You are the light of the world” (Matthew 5:13 and14, ESV).

What did Jesus mean? Lee Strobel – well-known as the former atheist who wrote the best-seller The Case for Christ – says that Jesus meant if you’re going to follow Him, make people thirst for God. Shine His message of hope, grace, love, redemption, and eternal life into areas of darkness and despair.

“Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16, ESV).

What does that look like in the 21st century?

The key word is not debate. It’s dialogue. It’s conversation. It’s relationship. It’s sitting down with someone who is skeptical about the faith and giving them the space to ask questions, to express doubts. It’s validating them as valuable to God and made in His image.

We’re all in different places on the journey. If those of us who are further along the path will pray to our Heavenly Father about our neighbors and invest in our relationships with them, we can help them make progress in their journey toward Christ.

Lee Strobel is with us on our Focus on the Family Broadcast “Evangelism: It’s Easier Than You Think.” He encourages us to share the good news of Jesus Christ with our friends and family in easy-and-natural ways.

In this recorded message to our staff at a chapel service, Lee shares ideas on how to open up a conversation about faith with people in our sphere of influence. And he’ll try to convince you that it’s easier than you think!

Lee challenges us to pray for one spiritually lost friend for one minute at one o’clock every day between now and Christmas, ten weeks from now. And as you’re praying for that friend or family member, pray for:

  • An opportunity to invite them to a Christmas service at your church. If they live far away, pray that someone else will invite them to their
  • Pray that the Holy Spirit would bind the Enemy and draw your friend or family member to Jesus.
  • Pray that God would soften your friend’s heart and demonstrate His love to them.
  • Pray that their eyes would be opened, and they would turn from darkness to light.
  • Pray that they would repent of their sins and accept Jesus Christ as their Savior.

You can tune in on your local radio station, online, on iTunes, via Podcast, or take us with you on our free phone app.

In the past year, over 200,000 people said they made decisions for Christ because of Focus on the Family. That number represents the impact of everyone who donates to the work of our ministry. When you make a donation of any amount today, we’d like to send you a devotional book written by Lee Strobel and Mark Mittleberg, called The Unexpected Adventure: Taking Everyday Risks to Talk with People About Jesus. It will inspire you to find more ways to share the Gospel with others! Visit our website or give us a call at 1-800-A-FAMILY (232-6459). We also have many other resources related to marriage, parenting, and faith available in our online store.
