According to the CDC, 40 percent of Americans struggle with some kind of addiction:
- Drugs
- Alcohol
- Pornography
- Workaholism
- Gambling
- Shopping
- Eating disorders
- Tech addiction
- Opioids
And the list could go on.
Addiction will devastate your health, your finances, and your relationships.
Each of us has unresolved pain or unhealthy coping mechanisms of some kind. It’s part of who we are as human beings who live in a sinful world. The Bible says we’ve all sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). We cover ourselves with a fig leaf and hide from each other.
There are three main reasons that we don’t admit that we have a problem:
- We believe admitting weakness is itself a weakness.
- We believe that we can hold ourselves together and make our dysfunction work.
- We believe that no one can help us – not even God.
None of those are true. Our guest on our Focus on the Family Broadcast “Finding Freedom from Addiction” is Dr. Gregory Jantz, nationally known psychologist and author of the book Healing the Scars of Addiction: Reclaiming Your Life and Moving into a Healthy Future.
Listen on your local radio station, online, on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, or on our free phone app.
Dr. Jantz shares why you can pick up the shattered pieces of your life and find healing and freedom. Whether you visit a counselor, attend a Celebrate Recovery group, or talk to a pastor or a friend, freedom begins when you’re able to say, “I’m struggling” and admit that you have a problem.
If something has control over you, we have caring Christian counselors on staff who would count it a privilege to offer you a free consultation. Call us, leave your name and number, and they’ll get back with you just as soon as possible. The number during business hours is 1-800-A-FAMILY (232-6459).
