One busy weekday morning, author Kay Wyma was backing out of her driveway when a big truck barreled down the road and forced her to the shoulder.
Frustrated and annoyed, she took a deep breath and realized that she had a choice: she could choose to wallow in her anger and frustration, or she could choose to be thankful that no one, including herself, had been injured.
Instead of condemning the truck driver, Kay felt compassion for him, wondering what kind of bad day he was having that would cause him to drive so recklessly. That one simple shift in her mindset changed the course of her day for the better.
She was filled with a sense of peace and began to think, “What would happen if I did this every day?”
That experience sparked her idea for a 30-day Peace Project that she called Soul30 – a 30-day experiment to bring godly virtues into people’s lives such as thankfulness, kindness, and mercy instead of anger, fear, and entitlement.
Kay Wyma is with us on our Focus on the Family Broadcast “Finding Peace in Your Everyday Life” to share her experiences. Listen on your local radio station, online, on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, or on our free phone app.
Kay also turned her thoughts into a book called The Peace Project: A 30-Day Experiment Practicing Thankfulness, Kindness, and Mercy. It’s available for a gift of any amount. Visit our website or give us a call at 1-800-A-FAMILY (232-6459).
