In my opinion, every believer has a role to play in foster care.
That’s a big statement, I know, but it’s true. We’re not all called to do the same thing or to carry the same load, of course, but we’re all capable of doing something. The ultimate goal, as I see it,is for every believer to feel empowered with a sense of direction for how God wishes to use us.
The Apostle Paul told us the body of Christ functions this way:
“Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.”(1 Cor. 12:4-7)
Paul is saying that we all have different functions but the same purpose. There are approximately 350,000 churches in the United States and about 100,000 children who are looking for adoptive homes. That’s one child for every three churches. Not everyone will open their home, but we can all do something to make a difference for a child in need.
Imagine if we did!
Pastor Jason Johnson, a director at Christian Alliance for Orphans, encourages Christians to ask God, “What’s my something?”
Jason is joining me on Focus on the Family with Jim Daly to help you discover ways to step into the world of adoption and foster care. Your something could be opening your home; it could be the financial means to support foster care efforts; or it could be a gift or talent that allows you to play a significant role in someone’s life. There are many opportunities for you to get involved:
• Adoption.
• Using your home as a temporary, safe, and loving place for kids.
• Serving as a respite giver, which means helping foster or adoptive families with things like laundry, dinner, or babysitting.

We’ll share what you can do to step into the life of a foster child in the name of Christ. We estimate that over 4,000 children have been adopted out of foster care through our Wait No More program.
