Getting Rid of the Clutter in Your Home

An organized drawer

A lot of us should probably throw some stuff out. We’re bursting at the seams.

Did you know that America has more self-storage facilities than McDonald’s restaurants? At last count, there were 48,500 self-storage facilities in America compared to only 14,000 McDonald’s.

If your home is overwhelmed with clutter instead of being a place of comfort and peace, there’s something you can do about it.

Author and popular guest Kathi Lipp is with us on our Focus on the Family Broadcast “Getting Rid of the Clutter in Your Home.” She’s a self-proclaimed recovering “clutter-aholic” with some great advice that will help you better understand the spiritual issues that are often behind clinging to your stuff.

Kathi offers practical tips for decluttering your space for a more relaxing atmosphere and for seeking relationships with the people around you, not with your things. She explains how to implement the 10 principles of a clutter-free home:

  • Make clutter management a daily priority.
  • Designate a place for everything.
  • Don’t put it aside. Put it away.
  • Stop being reactive and start being proactive.
  • Don’t argue over stuff. Negotiate space.
  • Don’t use storage as a way to delay decisions.
  • Once you diagnose the clutter, you can dispense with it.
  • Things are not relationships.
  • Just-in-case thinking is impoverished thinking.

You deserve peace in your home, and you can have it. Find out how on your local radio station, online, on Apple Podcasts, via Google Podcasts, or on our free phone app.

Kathi Lipp is the author of The Clutter-Free Home: Making Room for Your Life. Let us put this resource into your hands for a gift of any amount. Give us a call at 1-800-A-FAMILY (232-6459) or visit our website for more information. If you can’t afford it, we’ll find a way to get it to you.
