One of the most intimidating verses in Scripture for many Christians is Matthew 28:19-20: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.”
Many of us struggle to share our faith because we’re embarrassed, we don’t want to impose our beliefs on someone else, or we fear they’ll find our views offensive. Of course, we believe that redemption through Christ is Good News – Great News, in fact! – and believe telling others about it ought to be as normal to us as breathing. But we don’t know how to get there.
To help you grasp your full identity as a “sent one,” I’ve invited Dr. Heather Holleman and her husband, Ashley, to join me on Focus on the Family with Jim Daly. They’ll teach you how to develop a style of evangelism that’s rooted not in what you do but in who you are.
They share four archetypes of evangelism based on God’s gifting according to personality type:
• Farmer: This person sows spiritual seeds, prepares the soil of people’s hearts, and reaps a harvest in its season.
• Fisherman: This person seeks the lost by going where the “fish” are.
• Ambassador: This person represents the Lord and His words.
• Royal High Priest: This person speaks God’s Word authoritatively and brings blessing and peace to others.
God invites us to join Him in spreading the good news of His kingdom for the sake of others and for our own growth in grace. We’ll show you how!
Dr. Heather Holleman is a speaker, an author, and an associate teaching professor of advanced writing at Penn State. Ashley serves as Executive Director of Seated and Sent, a ministry he and Heather founded.
