Hope for the Anxious During Unsettling Times

Anxious man

Anxiety is rampant in our culture. It’s rampant among Christians as well. Anxiety is a pandemic all its own. We’re stressed relationally, emotionally, financially, and many of us physically.

That’s no accident. Relational, emotional, physical, and financial health are the four legs of a chair that give our lives a sense of security and peace. They’re also the four areas of our lives that are subject to intense stress and anxiety.

During these times, we can find comfort in the words of Jesus: “In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). What a comfort that our faith is based in something that transcends the troubles of this world.

Our Focus on the Family Broadcast “Hope for the Anxious During Unsettling Times” features a conversation I had with Deborah Pegues, a certified behavioral consultant, a Bible teacher, a speaker, and the author of many books.

You can hear it on your local radio station, online, on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, or on our free phone app.

Deborah offers an insightful look at worry and anxiety and gives effective strategies for dealing with the stress they cause. She shares how to identify your stressors and how to face them through the acronym S.T.R.E.S.S.

  • Seek God’s guidance.
  • Trust when He tells you to do something.
  • Remember past victories.
  • Exhort God above the problem.
  • Solicit the prayers and support of others.
  • Stand on the promises of God.

God’s grace and power can strengthen you to do all things – even conquer anxiety!

Deborah Pegues has written a book called 30 Days to Taming Worry and Anxiety, which is available for a gift of any amount. It’s a quick read that will offer more insight and wisdom when it comes to handling these emotions in a healthy manner. Visit our website. Or give us a call at 1-800-A-FAMILY (232-6459). If you can’t afford it, we’ll find a way to get it to you.

-I would really like Deborah’s acronym for PEACE. I heard it on the radio while driving and couldn’t write it down.

-Hi, Dawn! Here’s the acronym for PEACE.

P – prioritize every aspect of your life according to God’s word
E – expect more from God
A – acknowledge God in all of your decisions
C – cultivate an attitude of contentment
      E – eliminate unrighteous behavior

      Blessings!
