One of the hardest things we can do is manage work and family well. Both demand a significant portion of our time and commitment. Woven through all of that is money.
How can you manage your family’s money in a way that truly matters?
Many couples feel insecure and anxious about their finances. Most think the reason they struggle with money is that they don’t have enough. But more usually isn’t the answer.
Obviously, if you’re looking through sofa cushions for loose change to pay overdue bills, more money would be helpful. But true financial freedom is much more a function of your attitude about money than how much or how little money you have.
Joining me on Focus on the Family with Jim Daly to talk about your relationship with money is Russ Crosson, chief mission officer and senior partner of Blue Trust (formerly Ronald Blue & Co.). Russ has years of experience helping couples think through financial planning strategies from a Christian perspective.
He explains financial concepts like:
• Why you are out of balance?
• Prosperity investments vs. posterity investments.
• Why you shouldn’t overwork in pursuit of retirement.
Russ also wants you to understand why:
• Money is not a reliable measure of self-worth.
• Money is not a guarantee of contentment.
• Money is not a measure of success.
Money is a necessary fact of life, but it’s not life itself. It can’t satisfy the deepest needs of your soul or replace the intimacy of a good marriage, the connection of a good friendship, or the love of your family.
