Living Joyously

Man with hands raised

Motivational speaker David Ring often challenges people to persevere through their adversity by saying, “I have cerebral palsy. What’s your problem?”

David is something of an expert in adversity. He developed cerebral palsy after not receiving enough oxygen at birth. Throughout his life, he has endured excruciating pain, physical limitations, and public humiliation. Orphaned at age 14 after both of his parents died of cancer, David was moved from family to family and never felt he had a place to call home. At one point, David gave up on life, feeling that life was hopeless, that nobody loved him, and that God was mean to him.

But then, when David was 16, he reluctantly attended a church service. That night, he met God for the first time and experienced the love of Christ. From that moment, David became a living example of Matthew 19:26, which says, “With God all things are possible.”

For almost 50 years, David has defied the odds and passionately shared the gospel of Christ with audiences all over the world! His incredible testimony of strength, courage, and faith leaves listeners of all ages inspired and hungry to fulfill God’s calling on their lives.

So, when David tells people, “I have cerebral palsy. What’s your problem?” he’s pointing out that we all face problems. We can allow adversity to defeat us, or we can live victoriously in Christ.

On Focus on the Family with Jim Daly, we’re airing a message from David Ring that was recorded at Moody Bible Institute’s Founder’s Week several years ago. His talk will encourage you to face your challenges head on and to have compassion for those who deal with mental or physical disabilities.

This is one of Focus on the Family’s most popular broadcasts of all time. Every time I hear David’s message, I’m inspired anew to make the most of what God has given me and to love and accept those around me. David is a great example of the fact that that every life is precious because we’re all made in the image of God.
