Focus on the Family has been celebrating its 40th anniversary with fun nostalgia from 1977 and a visit from the Vice President of the United States and an upcoming November cruise … but our anniversary isn’t the only thing we’re commemorating in 2017!
This year also marks the 30th birthday of our beloved Adventures in Odyssey audio drama – and one way we’re celebrating is by releasing a full-color NIrV Adventures in Odyssey Bible for kids.
It’s fitting that we celebrate Adventures in Odyssey’s 30th birthday with a Bible, because that’s been the source for the audio drama since the beginning. It’s about more than good storytelling – it’s about the wisdom and life-giving truth found in God’s Word.
That’s why our team designed the NIrV Adventures in Odyssey Bible to help children ages 7 to 12 develop a love of Scripture reading. It’s in an easy-to-read translation and also has dozens of fun features that will help children better understand the Bible’s history and meaning.
Whit, Connie, Eugene, Wooton and others will guide kids through:
- 66 book introductions,
- 300 fun trivia facts,
- more than 200 devotionals,
- 100 word searches,
- 52 key memory verses,
- a 30-day guided reading plan,
- maps of key biblical events,
- and eight comic-book adventures illustrated by Marvel/DC Comics artist Sergio Cariello scattered throughout the Bible.
Our goal with this Bible is to help children develop a foundational biblical worldview from which they’ll make wise future life choices. We want children to understand that the greatest adventure of all is knowing and following Jesus Christ every day.
And the reality is it’s never too early to encourage children to make their faith their own, because we know that the foundation of a child’s worldview is formed before the age of 13.
That’s what makes this Bible such a unique resource for parents to give their kids. Like my friend and Focus’ vice president of content development Bob DeMoss noted, “The NIrV Adventures in Odyssey Bible reaches children in that sweet spot when they’re developing their capacity to understand deeper spiritual truths.”
And that can result in blessings that will last into eternity.
If you want to purchase an NIrV Adventures in Odyssey Bible, it is available now exclusively via the Focus on the Family Store (available at https://store.focusonthefamily.com/) before going to wider release starting on Sept. 18. It is available in hardcover and two Italian leatherette editions. Families can learn more about the NIrV Adventures in Odyssey Bible at www.AIOBible.com.
And before I sign off – I mentioned at the top of this post that the NIrV Adventures in Odyssey Bible was one way we were celebrating Adventures in Odyssey’s 30th birthday this year. I briefly want to mention the other two ways.
On Saturday, Aug. 12, right here at the Focus on the Family campus in Colorado Springs, we’ll be hosting the “Get in the Show Finale Audition Event.” It will be a fun experience for the entire family with pre-show games and activities starting at 8:30 a.m. Mountain Time. At 10 a.m. families will enjoy the Finale Event emceed by comedian Bob Smiley and live performances by the top three “Get in the Show” finalists. You can attend in person or online via our digital pass. Learn more and purchase tickets online.
Finally, our 40th Anniversary Cruise in November will feature special birthday activities, including the Adventures in Odyssey 30th Birthday Live Stage Show, a meet-and-greet with the show’s cast and crew, and story time at the end of each day, among other things. Learn more about our cruise at www.focuscruise.com.
I’d like to hear from you: What has the Adventures in Odyssey audio drama meant to you and your family? Let me know your thoughts in the comments section, below. I’ll be sure to share them with our Adventures in Odyssey team. I know they’ll be greatly encouraged by what you have to say.
Donor Funds will not be used for cruise costs.
