Author Crystal Paine discovered something surprising when she surveyed 4,000 married women about their family’s finances. Most, regardless of their income level, expressed a level of fear and uncertainty.
She also discovered that much of this unsettled emotion is rooted in the generalized belief that we need “more” in order to feel secure. That is, we need more money, more time, more experience, etc.
Crystal understands. She and her husband, Jesse, spent the early years of their marriage struggling to make ends meet while caring for a toddler and a newborn. They often felt the only way out was “more.”
But then Crystal and Jesse learned to start right where they were and make the most of what they already had. It wasn’t easy, but the money habits they developed have stayed with them to this day and allowed them to thrive financially.
These days, Crystal defines financial health this way:
“It’s the quiet confidence and calm that comes from managing your money with intention. It is seeing money as a tool to bring freedom instead of fear. It is being in a position where money serves your life instead of running your life.”
Crystal Paine is joining me on Focus on the Family with Jim Daly to help you identify your family’s financial goals and follow key habits that will create a sense of financial security, including:
• Habits to build financial freedom.
• Start with what you have.
• Decide your financial priorities.
• Predetermine your spending.
• Stop paying full price.
• Consult your 90-year-old self.
Budgeting is not about mastering math skills. It’s about prioritizing how you use money – that is, aligning your spending with your values.
