Guys, for a better relationship with your wife and children, adopt the same motto as NFL players and coaches: “Put something good on tape.”
“Putting something good on tape” refers to the way NFL games are filmed. Every player on every play is recorded from multiple angles. This allows teams across the league to evaluate a player’s abilities, strategy, and work ethic. And since everyone is watching, “putting something good on tape” means showing up on game day ready to go. To execute. To get the job done and win. Anybody can play well at practice – nothing is on the line. But can you show up on game day? Can you make something good happen when it counts?
That’s the mark of a champion. It’s also the mark of a man. A good husband and father shows up for his family in ways that matter. Financially, of course. But emotionally and spiritually as well. He sacrifices his time, his resources, even his own ambition when the greater cause is the well-being of others.
Men, we don’t want our story to be, “He made a lot of money … but he didn’t love his wife or treat her with respect.” We don’t want people to say, “He had a nice house and car … but he never spent time with his children.” No, we want people to say, “He engaged his family in ways that mattered.
Guys, when you wake up each morning, think to yourself, “Today is game day.” Then, go out there and put something good on tape.
