How much human potential has been aborted?
The toll is inconceivable.
Since the United States Supreme Court legalized abortion in all fifty states back in 1973, over 62 million children have been lost – children who would have grown up to be scientists making discoveries, scholars and innovators solving problems – and athletes accomplishing incredible feats on the gridiron.
Like Micah Parsons.
At twenty-one years of age, the Penn State sophomore linebacker is expected to be drafted in the NFL draft’s first round on Thursday night. Known for his explosive speed, raw strength and enthusiasm, Parsons almost never made it out of the womb alive.
“It’s actually a crazy story,” Micah Parsons reflected. “I don’t think I’ve ever told anyone this before. My mom already had two kids when she got pregnant with me. She just didn’t know if she could afford it.”
According to published reports, Micah’s mother, Sherese, was planning to have an abortion but ultimately changed her mind after receiving a phone call from a Catholic nun who praised the value of human life.
Parson’s upbringing wasn’t all smooth sailing – but he credits it with preparing him for this next chapter in his life.
“I would say my commitment, my respect, my work ethic, my positive attitude, always keeping my chin high, always staying grounded – everywhere including in football,” the future NFL’er reflected about his mother’s influence on his life.
“If we had a million more Shereses,” Micah said, “this world would be okay.”
But it’s not okay for nearly one million American babies each year. I regularly think about how much richer, interesting and advanced our world would be if abortion hadn’t claimed the lives of so many innocent young people.
Consider all the cures that have gone undiscovered or the books and movies unscripted. Think about the laughter lost and the songs that were never written – or the friends you never had but who would have transformed your life in so many wonderful ways.
For Nicole Auerbach, who covers football for The Atlantic, a profile piece on the Penn Live website on Micah Parsons was just too much.
The article’s headline read, in part, “Spared from abortion, Micah Parsons about to become 1st-round NFL draft pick.”
“I cannot believe a legitimate news outlet ran ‘spared from abortion’ in a subhead about someone. @PennLive published this Tuesday AM and it’s still up,” she tweeted.
Yes, Ms. Auerbach, someone dared to state the truth, and it upset you. The woke media didn’t toe the line and it shocked you. If only other “legitimate media” was actually legitimate, we would have a much more honest world.
It’s perplexing to me why someone wouldn’t celebrate Mr. Parson’s life and accomplishments and instead begrudge a media spotlight on it.
It seems that Ms. Auerbach is simply uncomfortable with the gruesome realities and consequences of abortion. She would rather ignore it than confront it – a sentiment that is unfortunately all too common today.
But you can’t turn your back on what’s happening to innocent preborn babies. They deserve to be protected. They deserve a chance at life.
