Being pro-life means much more than being against abortion. Our value statement on the sanctity of human life reads:
We believe that human beings are created by God in His image. Therefore, every person, from conception to natural death, possesses inherent dignity and immeasurable worth – including preborn children, elderly individuals, those with special needs and others marginalized by society. Christians, then, are called to defend, protect, and value all human life.
Author and speaker Emily Colson has lived the truth of that statement up close and personal. She is the single mother of 28-year-old Max, who has a diagnosis of autism. She says that nothing has been simple or easy in their lives, but there has been beauty. Why? Because God has used their brokenness to create something beautiful.
Emily says that He does that for all of us.
God draws us to Himself not because we are worthy but because He is great. He sees value in every life, and He blesses cultures who affirm that value. First Corinthians 12:18 and 22 says, “God has arranged the parts in the body, every one of them, just as He wanted them to be…. Those parts that seem weaker are indispensable.”
We’re celebrating the beauty of human life on our Focus on the Family Broadcast “Seeing the Value of Every Person,” featuring a talk by Emily Colson recorded at a Focus on the Family chapel. It’s one of our “Best of” for 2019. She shared delightful stories of the “pure worship” she sees in her son Max.
The program is available in CD for a gift of any amount. Visit our website or give us a call at 1-800-A-FAMILY (232-6459). If you can’t afford it, we’ll find a way to get it to you. Or hear the program on your local radio station, online, on Apple Podcasts, via Google Podcasts, or take us with you on our free phone app.
We defend human life everyday here at Focus on the Family through our websites, podcasts, social media pages, and digital outlets.
We also affirm the value of every human life through initiatives like our Option Ultrasound program launched in 2004, which has saved an estimated 425,000 babies.
I echo Emily’s encouragement: “Every life is precious, unrepeatable, irreplaceable, indispensable, one of a kind and part of God’s grand love story. Keep going, my friends. Keep speaking up for life.”
