Exclusive First Look: Saul from ‘The Bible’ Miniseries

We have an exclusive first look at Saul from The Bible, History Channel’s  ten-part miniseries acting out the Bible.

If Saul could be converted, is there any doubt in your mind that anyone is beyond the reach of God?

Along with other faith-based outlets including Beliefnet, ChristianCinema.com, Christian Post, Crosswalk, and Hollywood Jesus, we bring you exclusive first looks at character art from the miniseries. Take a peek at Mary, the mother of Jesus, next at American Bible.

Plight of the Orphan: Emotional Video

Have you ever thought about adopting, about rescuing a child from a bad situation?

Today’s Focus on the Family broadcast, The Plight of the Modern Day Orphan, features a great discussion on the topic with my friends and colleagues, Paul McCusker and Kelly Rosati. They joined John and me to discuss the impact of Charles Dickens’s tale “Oliver Twist” during an age when orphans were largely disregarded, and reiterate today’s need for orphan protection and care.

The Missing Piece in the Gun Debate

Do you ever get the sense that fewer and fewer people are willing to address the root cause of big problems?

Take for example the fiscal state of America. Instead of cutting spending and tackling the crippling national debt, lawmakers raise taxes.

When it comes to education and struggling schools, rather than examining the curriculum or expanding parental choice, the immediate response is usually a call to increase the school district’s budget.

Abortion or sexually transmitted disease rates rise – and there’s a chorus of individuals championing the free distribution of condoms in public schools.

Five Best Movies for Kids

Parents in search of reliable analysis of entertainment, especially movies and television intended for children, will find no better friends than our terrific team at Plugged In. And since Oscar season is here, they’ve decided to offer their own nominations for best films of the year.

Today,  I’d like to share their list of the top five cinematic productions for the youngsters in your family.

BEST MOVIES FOR KIDS*

*Since the word kids is a pretty broad descriptor, we’ll give some context here: Generally speaking, we’re looking at middle school- and elementary-age children, but we’re also aware that different kids have different sensitivities.

Life Lesson from the ‘Dancing Guy’ Video

Have you seen the “Dancing Guy” video making its way around the Internet?

As you’ll see below, it shows one person performing a bizarre dance at an outdoor concert.  Initially, he’s just out there all by himself and he looks odd and out of place.  But then, one person joins him.  Before long, that first person’s willingness to join in draws a second person, then a third.  And in a matter of minutes, what was once a lone dancer becomes dozens.

Ten Favorite Christmas Movie Quotes

This past Wednesday I asked if any of you had a favorite Christmas movie.

In my book, it’s hard to top It’s a Wonderful Life. One of the reasons that film has stood the test of time is due to the fact that we all want to know that we matter. We all want to be needed. I know some of the theology within the movie is flawed. We don’t believe that angels “earn” their wings.

Should Angus T. Jones Remain on “Two and a Half Men”?

Labeling a popular sitcom as “filth” is hardly news, unless the critique comes from one of its own stars.

Angus T. Jones plays the role of “Jake Harper” in the CBS program, “Two and a Half Men.” The 19-year-old actor created a firestorm this past Monday when he acknowledged that as a new Christian he’s grown disgusted with his participation in the program.

“I’m on ‘Two and a Half Men’ and I don’t want to be on it,” he told the Forerunner Chronicles, a media outlet which is part of an Alabama-based Church.

When Sport Imitates Life

I’ve never met him, but he strikes me as the kind of guy I’d love to have as my neighbor.

His name is Ed Anzalone. New York football fans know him as “Fireman Ed,” and he’s been enthusiastically leading chants at New York Jets games for years. With his distinctive green and white New York City fire helmet, and sitting on the shoulders of a friend, nobody does a better job at firing up a crowd than big Ed.

Proverbs 31 Woman – Or Victoria’s Secret Model?

Alex Eklund is a student at Baylor University and noticed a disturbing trend on Facebook both during and after the Victoria’s Secret fashion show which aired on CBS.

Female friends and acquaintances began to lament their body, with many suggesting it was time to go on a diet.

“There was an underlying sense of insecurity which I sensed throughout the entire thing,” he told World Magazine.

In response, Alex decided to offer some encouragement. He decided to update his own status and wrote:

“I’d rather have a Proverbs 31 woman than a Victoria’s Secret model.”

According to published reports, the post went viral, and hundreds of messages began to pour in.
