The History of Memorial Day

It can be easy to think of Memorial Day simply as the unofficial start of summer or a family day filled with ice cream and barbecue.

Those aren’t bad things. However, it’s good for us to remember – and teach our children – that Memorial Day is so much more than a day of fun. It’s a day of remembrance.

I will leave you with a video sharing some of the history of this important day. It’s something you may want to share with your kids.

And to all of  the husbands and wives, sons and daughters, mothers and fathers who have lost a loved one in one of our armed conflicts – today we remember and honor your dead. And we thank you, because your sacrifice has been tremendous.

“Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15:13)
