Can a radio program change the direction of a family’s future?
We received an email the other day that suggests it can. I’d love to share an excerpt of it with you. Beth’s words put a lump in my throat. She wrote:
I wanted to let you know that just last week I filed for divorce. We have been married for 19 years . . . Our finances are extremely limited. [However] I was so desperate that even living in a hotel seemed better than staying here.
I have tried to commit suicide twice and have felt like I’ve been stuck in a marriage where I just couldn’t get out. My husband doesn’t drink or cheat . . . so why am I so miserable?
After listening to your broadcast, I came to realize that I have been very hard on [my husband] and that I did the things that I did out of fear. I expected him to be the leader but I wasn’t letting him take charge.
Your broadcast on “Game Plan to Revolutionize Your Marriage” changed ME!! I now know that I am part of the reason that our marriage is so bad. I asked my husband to come in (he has been sleeping on the couch for the last month) and we listened to the radio program together.
I told him I would tear up the divorce papers and he could stop looking for an apartment. He laughed and said the cheapest one he found was a cruddy hotel. I know we have some things to work out but I’m in a whole new frame of mind now. Thank you so much for your ministry! I have loved it for years!
Candidly, it’s a very humbling and gratifying experience to participate in a radio program that the Lord is using to His glory. If you missed the broadcast Beth referred to, listen here to PART ONE and PART TWO.
Beth’s story is just one example of the many letters and calls we receive in response to the various outreaches here at Focus on the Family. For more information on how we might help you and your family, please visit us online.
There are many more women like Beth out there who are scared, lonely and praying for help. Together, we can be used by the Lord to lend a hand.
