Today, pro-life advocates will be participating in the 41st annual March for Life in Washington, D.C. Their participation – despite the snow and cold temperatures – solemnly testifies to the beauty of preborn life, the worth of each and every woman facing an unplanned pregnancy, and the need for us, as a country, to embrace a culture of life.
I was supposed to participate in that march today. I traveled from my home in Colorado to New York City for some work-related meetings before the march. Unfortunately, the storm overtook us and we were unable to complete the last leg of our trip to our nation’s capital. While it saddens me to not be able to attend the march today, I am encouraged by the fact that the event hasn’t been cancelled. Those who were able to complete their travel to D.C. – including representatives from Focus on the Family who had traveled directly into Washington earlier – are marching today. Their resolve to be the voice for the preborn is born out of their convictions and desire to help “the least of these.”
It’s that dogged tenacity that has characterized our movement for the past 41 years since the Supreme Court issued its Roe v. Wade decision. We’ve had major setbacks – but, by the grace of God, we’ve come back time and time again. We continue to press on, both in culture and in courts, for the sake of life.
The video I’m including below chronicles the 41 years since Roe v. Wade. It’s a bit jarring to see how many losses the pro-life side faced during various times in our history. It makes me all the more grateful for the wins God has allowed us to have.
To all of you who had a part in helping change the tide for life – all of you who have prayed, donated, volunteered, helped a mother in need, adopted a child who had been at risk of abortion, forgone higher salaries in lieu of working in the movement, chosen life for a baby – thank you. It’s because of you that the culture is going back to life. Don’t stop doing what you do… and may God continue to bless the work of your hands.
