The sun is just now setting across the Mall in Washington, D.C., the site of the annual March for Life.
It’s been a remarkable day.
Amid tens of thousands of pro-life stalwarts, many of them young, this year’s assembly was unlike any of the previous 46 demonstrations. That’s because for the first time in the rally’s long history, the President of the United States attended and spoke in person.
Standing at the blue lectern behind bullet proof clear-glass panels, President Trump’s message was moving and direct:
When we see the image of a baby in the womb, we glimpse the majesty of God’s creation.
When we hold a newborn in our arms, we know the endless love that each child brings to a family.
When we watch a child grow, we see the splendor that radiates from each human soul.
One life changes the world.
Mr. Trump went on to affirm his administration’s position against taxpayer-funded abortions and its unwavering commitment to protecting faith-based adoption agencies. He also discussed the critical importance of maintaining our religious freedoms, including the right for students to express their faith on campus.
In closing, President Trump’s words lifted the crowd higher still:
To all the moms here today, we celebrate you and we declare that mothers are heroes. Your strength, devotion, and drive is what powers our nation. Because of you, our country has been blessed with amazing souls who have changed the course of human history.
We cannot know what our citizens yet unborn will achieve. The dreams they will imagine. The masterpieces they will create. The discoveries they will make. But we know this: every life brings love into this world. Every child brings joy to a family. Every person is worth protecting.
And above all, we know that every human soul is divine and every human life, born and unborn, is made in the holy image of Almighty God.
Together, we will defend this truth all across our magnificent land. We will set free the dreams of our people. And with determined hope, we look forward to all of the blessings that will come from the beauty, talent, purpose, nobility, and grace of every American child.
Thank you, President Trump.
I also had the privilege to address the crowd, and it was a high honor. I cannot say enough good things about March for Life president Jeanne Mancini and her entire team who work tirelessly to put on this critically important event.
We’re planning a broadcast that will focus on highlights from the rally, but for now I want to leave you with some images from the event.
Let’s continue to tell the story and advocate for children in the womb. Please don’t forget to save Saturday, May 9th on your calendar for Focus on the Family’s ALIVE 2020 – our simultaneous five-city event that will feature live ultrasounds of third-trimester pre-born children.
When you show the world the baby, it’s almost impossible for the world to look away. We’re here to lift up life – to empower mothers, give voice to the voiceless and protect the most innocent and vulnerable among us. We will never tire of the task until every life is protected under law.
