Women Are Women, Men Are Men

In recent years, voices within the culture have argued that men and women are identical. One toy company decided to capitalize on that idea by designing a doll house that could be used by either gender. The company didn’t expect the results they got. In tests, girls acted like girls, and the boys acted like boys. The girls had tea parties, pretend marriages, and kids playing in the yard. The boys created war scenes or drove the baby carriage off the roof in a fiery crash.

Those differences remain into adulthood. Men connect by doing things together. They go hunting, play golf, or work on the car. Communication happens along the way as they do stuff together.

Women connect by talking. They sit across from each other over coffee, look each other in the eye, and talk.

Neither style of communication is right or wrong … just different. In fact, they’re both important. Communication and connection shouldn’t be one sided. Someone will wind up not feeling heard or having their needs met. Successful couples make room for each other by recognizing that men communicate like men, and women communicate like women.

-I’d like to know how we can get hold of someone with Focus on the Family. We have a situation with an adult child of ours that has completely floored us. We have talked to our pastor and his wife, and they have prayed with us, but their experience goes only so far. The pastor’s wife suggested that we get in touch with Focus for some further insight and help

-Hello, Linda. Thanks for reaching out to us. We encourage you to talk with one of our counselors (at no cost to you) — call 855-771-HELP (4357) weekdays between 6 A.M. and 8 P.M. (MT). We’d be happy to help in any way we’re able. May God bless your family and guide you.
