Be Mindful of the Time

The suggestion that, “It’s never too late,” may be good advice if you’re thinking of going back to school or your diet is out of whack. But when it comes to mending broken family relationships, there’s no time like today.

Tina and her father were in such severe conflict that they didn’t speak to one another for decades. As the years rolled by, the girl – now a woman – began to regret the split and decided to reconnect with her dad, who was nearly eighty. With Father’s Day approaching, she thought a nice card might be the best way to initiate contact with him. She wrote a heartfelt letter expressing her regrets, offering apologies, and telling her dad how much she missed him and hoped to see him again. She said she longed to heal old wounds and become a family again. She sealed the card, mailed it, and waited.

A couple of days later, she received a call from a family member, telling her that her father had just recently died. Her card sat in his mailbox, unopened.

If you’ve got a broken family relationship, be mindful of the time. Life is short. Be willing to take the first step toward healing. Make the most of the time you’ve been given – before it’s too late.
