In anticipation of our pro-life event “See Life 2020,” coming up on September 26th, Emily Colson is the guest on our Focus on the Family Broadcast “Be the Pro-Life Church.” You can tune in on your local radio station, online, on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, or on our free phone app.
Emily is the daughter of the late Chuck Colson. She’s also an author, speaker, and persuasive advocate for special needs families. She intimately understands how difficult a troubled pregnancy and caring for a child with special needs can be. Her husband walked out when their son, Max, was just eighteen months old, saying he couldn’t handle the stress.
Nothing has been simple or easy for Emily and Max. But through God’s grace she never gave in to the temptation to believe, “If I didn’t have to care for Max, my life would be perfect.” Certain parts of her life might have been easier, but life’s true beauty isn’t always found in the easy times.
If we believe that we’re entitled to a certain level of comfort, prosperity, or blessing, we are doomed to disappointment. Jesus told us, “In this world you, will have trouble” (John 16:33).
Emily never gave up on Max – no matter how difficult or challenging life got to be. She is honest about how hard life has been, but she has also found great value in her precious son by seeing him through God’s eyes. For although Jesus assures that we will face trouble, He counters that with an even greater truth: “But take heart, for I’ve overcome the world” (John 16:33).
That’s a powerful truth for all of us who claim to be followers of Christ. Are we committed to those who are not valued or appreciated in society? People with special needs like Max? Or the elderly? Or orphans? Or preborn children who are at risk of abortion?
We all share a sacred responsibility to protect human life, to stand up and be counted, and to let our voices be heard by government leaders and the entire culture. That’s what being pro-life is all about – living out our faith in Christ in tangible, loving ways ways.
On our broadcast Emily is sharing stories from her moving book, Dancing with Max: A Mother and Son Who Broke Free, which describes her joys and struggles in raising her son with special needs.
Let us put this resource into your hands. I’d like to do that for a gift of any amount. Give us a call at 1-800-A-FAMILY (232-6459). If you can’t afford it, we’ll find a way to get it to you. And when you help Focus on the Family today with a gift, your donation will be doubled for twice the impact in helping others through this ministry. Our thanks to generous donors who’ve made that possible. Visit our website for more information.
And if you’re struggling in any way as a result of abortion, remember that we have caring Christian counselors on staff, and it would be their privilege to offer you a free consultation. Call us, leave your name and number, and they’ll get back with you just as soon as possible. The number during business hours is 1-800-A-FAMILY (232-6459).
The slogan for Focus on the Family’s pro-life event this year is “See Life 2020”! The online event will kick off on September 26th featuring interviews, special music, and of course an ultrasound of a preborn baby. You can help get the word out by pointing your friends and family to https://www.focusonthefamily.com/see-life/ where they can sign the pledge to #LoveEveryHeartbeat. We’re praying for a reawakening to the sanctity of every human life in our nation!
Finally, I’d like to close by extending an invitation for you to become a special partner with us through our monthly “Friends of Focus on the Family” program. What’s amazing is that it only takes $60 to save a baby’s life by providing ultrasound machines and additional resources. Visit our website for more information.
