Changing Minds to Save the Pre-Born

The pro-life issue is close to my heart. And defending pre-born babies is a huge part of what we do at Focus on the Family. Few people are more vulnerable than pre-born children and women facing unplanned pregnancies.

And few people have a greater passion to protect the vulnerable than Kristan Hawkins. She’s the head of Students for Life, a pro-life organization working primarily on college campuses. She also does nationwide interviews on the topic of abortion.

Cultivating a Mentally Healthy Family

Since COVID has it been more difficult than you expected for your family’s emotional well-being to “get back to normal”?

It has been for a lot of families. That’s why I’ve invited my colleague, Dr. Danny Huerta, to join me on our Focus on the Family Broadcast “Cultivating a Mentally Healthy Family.” Dr. Huerta is a speaker, author, and vice president of Parenting and Youth here at Focus. He oversees our initiatives that equip mothers and fathers with biblical principles and counsel for raising healthy, resilient children.

Ohio Veto Override a Victory for Children and Common Sense

Score one in the Buckeye State for the genius of the checks and balances system of government.

The Ohio Senate’s override of Governor Mike DeWine’s incredulous veto of legislation banning the sexual mutilation of children caps a bizarre legislative odyssey that left many social conservatives heavy-hearted – and vowing action to right the chief executive’s wrong.

Wednesday’s vote ensures that the Saving Ohio Adolescents from Experimentation Act (SAFE Act) will now go into effect in 90 days.

The Act makes it illegal for doctors to prescribe puberty blocking drugs and opposite sex hormones for minors.

Abortion Survivors Share the Value of Pre-Born Lives

The issue of abortion has divided America for decades. Over that time, however, very few of us have heard from the children who have survived an abortion attempt.

On our Focus on the Family Broadcast “Abortion Survivors Share the Value of Pre-Born Lives,” we’re talking with two guests who experienced abortion firsthand and lived to tell their stories. Their voices deserve to be heard.

Melissa Ohden is the survivor of a failed saline infusion abortion in 1977.

Seeing God’s Image in All Men

Racism is a problem in America. What isn’t so obvious is what to do about it.

I grew up in Compton, California. I’ve seen the ugliness of racism up close. So has Pastor Miles McPherson, who grew up in a black neighborhood but went to school in a white neighborhood. He says he was too dark for white people and too light for black people. He was disrespected and mistreated by both races.

Although race relations have improved over the past few generations, nothing we’ve tried has eradicated it.

Caring for the Elderly

In 1984, Bill Goodrich attended a Christmas Eve service at his church. A choir of cognitively impaired adults from local group homes sang Christmas carols. The people around Bill thought their performance was beautiful, but Bill was troubled. A new Christian at the time, he spent the rest of the service asking the Lord why He allowed some people to suffer the way they do.

What about the people he’d met in nursing homes, for example?

The First Thanksgiving

It’s been over 400 years since the first Thanksgiving – and yet the more times change, the more they remain the same.

Thanksgiving 2023 comes during a highly volatile and uneven time in America’s history. Dissension and dysfunction seem to be everywhere. Anger and frustration are running high. You can feel it. You can see it.

Whether politically, economically, socially or spiritually, nobody knows for sure what is coming next – or even if it’s coming at all.

Well, truth be told, that sounds a bit like the first Thanksgiving.

Hollywood and artists tend to paint that first feast in Plymouth, Massachusetts in 1621 as this idyllic Hallmark Hall of Fame kind of moment.

American Heroes: Serving on the Front Lines

Tomorrow is Veteran’s Day, a day to remember military servicemen and women who have served and sacrificed in defense of our nation’s freedom.

Former Marine and expert in PTSD and military and veterans’ issues Chad Robichaux is joining us on our Focus on the Family Broadcast “American Heroes: Serving on the Front Lines.”

Chad originally joined the military after 9/11 fueled by a desire for retribution against terrorists. During eight tours of duty in Afghanistan, his interpreter, a man named Aziz, became like a brother and saved Chad’s life three times.

Jim Daly Statement on Yesterday’s Vote on Ohio’s Issue 1

Yesterday’s disappointing vote in Ohio that codified a right to abortion in the state constitution makes clear it’s essential that the critical work of the pro-life movement must carry on with renewed energy and enthusiasm.

No popular vote and no politician can make right the tragic wrong of abortion. This campaign is unlike any other. It’s a rescue mission. We’re determined to rescue women from the lies of an industry that has managed to convince a slim majority of Americans that death is somehow better than life.

Are You a Good Listener?

Author and pastor Ted Cunningham says, “Social media is a place where people share their opinions without sticking around for the conversation.”

He’s right. A lot of people like to share what they think, but not many will listen to what you think. Watch closely to how people interact with you, and you’ll see what I mean. Do they ask questions to better understand your point of view? And when you answer, do they really listen?
