Do you and your spouse run out of money before you run out of month? The problem may not be how much money you have but how much money has you.
If you’re having a hard time managing your bank account, the best place to start is by examining how you perceive money. The importance money has in your life will control how you use it.
So, first, be careful that your identity isn’t wrapped up in material possessions. You’re valuable because of who you are, not because of the things you own. If you don’t believe that, you’ll empty your pocketbook trying to buy your self-worth.
Second, learn to see money as a useful tool, not as a way to create happiness. Money can pay your bills and even buy some of the finer things in life. But it’ll never infuse your life with meaning and purpose.
And third, recognize that although cutting expenses can be challenging, in the end, it’ll relieve your marriage of undue financial stress. And since arguments about money are a leading cause of divorce, fixing your money problems could be key in transforming your marriage.
If you’re struggling financially, start by asking yourself, “What does money mean to me?” Change your views, and you may change your life.
