Dare to Dream Again

“When it comes to a professional career, what percentage of people do you think are doing what they really want to do?”

A colleague of mine recently posed that question to Kurt Warner, the former NFL quarterback and host of a new reality show titled “The Moment.”

What would you guess was his answer?

According to Kurt, it’s between 25 and 30 percent. Put another way, nearly three-quarters of Americans would rather be doing something else for a living.

How about you? Are you living out your dream or just trying to make ends meet?

“God created each and every one of us and planted specific passions inside each specific life,” Kurt reflected. “But things happen. We’re easily distracted and we often put our dreams on the shelf. There are all kinds of good reasons. What we want is a second chance – but we settle instead.”

Which is why the former Super Bowl quarterback was so excited to get involved in a new television venture that focuses on helping people get a second chance at making their dreams come true.

The program is titled “The Moment,” and it debuts tonight on the USA Network.

Kurt Warner is a man who knows all about the second chance. He was never drafted by an NFL team. He was eventually signed by the Green Bay Packers but was quickly cut. He took a job at a grocery store for $5.50 an hour. Still hungry to play football, though, he signed with the Iowa Barnstormers of the Arena Football League. He played for several seasons but still had his eyes on playing in the NFL. He finally received his second chance in 1998 and signed with the St. Louis Rams. In 1999 he led the team to victory in Super Bowl XXXIV.

Talk about making the most of your second chance!

“Life is about challenges,” says Kurt. “Life is also difficult, but just because it’s difficult doesn’t mean you can’t keep feeding your dream.”

Each episode of “The Moment” features an individual who gets a knock on their door and is invited to embark on a second-chance adventure in pursuit of a dream they once had, but seemingly let die.  After a few intensive weeks working with Kurt and somebody in their field of endeavor, they’re offered the opportunity to either “go for it” or go back to doing what they were doing before Kurt showed up on their front door step.

You might be surprised at what some of them decide to do.

Here is the trailer:

Off the set of the show Kurt and his wife, Brenda, are the loving parents of seven children – four boys and three girls. Devoted believers, Kurt and Brenda are doing their best to help their own kids realize the dreams the Lord has laid on their respective hearts. They want to see their children grow up in the “fear and admonition” of the Lord.

And if you ask me, that’s the most important “moment” of all.

I hope you’ll tune in tonight to watch the first episode and let me know what you think!
