It’s partially stereotype, but mostly true: Most men don’t communicate very well.
Generally speaking, men struggle to discuss things such as a pornography, addictions, financial trouble, anger, or depression.
There are three main reasons for this:
As common as poor communication may be among men, a stubborn unwillingness to improve is not without consequence. It can damage a man’s relationship with God, with his spouse, with his children, and with his friends and coworkers.
King David had a habit of not speaking up in his own household. His failure to rebuke his son, Adonijah, who attempted to take David’s throne, eventually led to the young man’s untimely death. Proverbs 28:13 says, “He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.”
On our Focus on the Family Broadcast “Difficult Conversations for Men,” we’re speaking with Pastor Johnny Hunt, who motivates Christian men to pursue godly relationships with other men to establish accountability and to address hidden sin in their lives.
Men can go much deeper with God, with their marriages, with their parenting, and with their careers if they learn how to open up and communicate about what’s happening within them.

Before I close, I want to mention Focus on the Family’s See Life 2021. Focus is combining the convenience of an online experience with the power of an in-person live event. This engaging pro-life initiative premiered across Focus on the Family’s websites and social media channels on Friday, July 16th. Each Friday, another episode of See Life 2021 is debuting, offering powerful testimonies from women and men whose lives have been impacted by abortion and practical information about the pro-life movement for families. Then, on Saturday, August 28th, See Life 2021 will culminate with a LIVE celebration of life at the American Airlines Arena in Dallas-Fort Worth. We’d love to see you there!
