Discovering the Power of One

Author and speaker Kyle Idleman has always believed that God loves the whole world (John 3:16), but Kyle never fully understood Jesus’ dedication to individuals until his 2-year-old daughter became trapped under a fallen dresser. When Kyle found her and rushed her to the hospital, his focus narrowed and he forgot about everything and everyone until he knew she was safe.

Jesus ministered to people in the same way – one person at a time. Just one example is found in Luke 8:40-48, which records a moment when crowds surrounded Jesus, yet He recognized the instant that a woman reached out and touched the hem of his clothing. Immediately, the crowds faded into the background for Jesus, and this one woman became His sole focus.

That’s the power of one.

As we follow Christ, we, too, ought to consider how God wants to work through our words and actions to bring the individuals within our circle of influence closer to Him.

Kyle Idleman is with us on our Focus on the Family Broadcast “Discovering the Power of One” to share how we can love and influence one person at a time the way Christ did. Kyle has a great sense of humor and shares a lot of fun stories that drive home the heart of his passion for others.

Our discussion will cover topics such as:

  • How to focus on individuals like Jesus did. God influences others by working “in” and “through” us.
  • How to develop a mentality of compassion. Change the way we think of others by taking the time to know them individually.
  • How to influence one person at a time. Our actions and words can bring others closer to Christ or keep them from hearing the Gospel.
  • How to serve the needs of others and love the unloved. We can love the unlovable because Jesus first loved us.

Tune in for our full conversation on your local radio station, online, on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, or take us with you on our free phone app.

Pastor Kyle Idleman is the Senior Pastor of Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, KY. He is also a frequent speaker and an author. He has written a book about his own experiences in learning to have a heart for individuals called One at a Time: The Unexpected Way God Wants to Use You to Change the World.
