At a conference where she was speaking, author and speaker Deborah Pegues was approached by a woman who told her, “I lost my home after my husband died because I didn’t realize what a balloon payment was. When it came due, I didn’t have the money.”
More women than she can count have told her similar stories. Deborah is a certified public accountant with an MBA in business finance and has written more than 20 books. She says financial issues with women aren’t the result of gender but the lack of financial and spiritual wisdom.
Her book The One-Minute Money Mentor for Women: 21 Strategies for Financial Empowerment clears up myths and misconceptions about money and offers practical steps to financial freedom.
Money doesn’t change our character – it reveals it. Which means the answer to money problems usually isn’t “more money.” It’s to address our core attitudes about money.
What we believe about money drives how we use it. Is money our ultimate answer for peace, happiness, and security? If so, we’ll end up worried and insecure most of the time. On the other hand, if our ultimate hope is found in Jesus, money will become a tool that brings about good things for ourselves, for our family, and for our community.
Deborah Pegues is with us on our Focus on the Family Broadcast “Empowering Women to Take Control of Their Finances” to explain how to make money a healthy factor in life through proper money management, breaking bad habits, and overcoming our lack of trust in God’s provision.
